Discussion:
IBM PS/2 P75 and SCSI Terminator

Hi all,

so now I bit the bullet and bought an P75 model, boots, 16 MB Ram works,
display works, new floppy works. Case is without cracks.
What doesn't work is the hard drive, does not make a sound, even on
external power. "New" one is on its way as is an External SCSI CD-ROM
drive (for installing OS/2 Warp)
Of course, the SCSI Terminator is missing, I found one in the UK, will
take a while until it gets to Berlin.
Now I am looking for a SCSI cable, and the mini Centronics variant is
unobtainium as it seems.
Any idea how to connect the External drive? Using a slot bracket and an
internal cable with 3 connectors?
Cheers

Peter, if you don't find the cable, I do have a spare 33F4606 sitting in
my SCSI cable tote. However, as I'm on the "wrong" side of the
Atlantic, the shipping price will make one's eyes water. I also have
FRU 92F0057 terminators.

I still have a few narrow SCSI drives that didn't sell in my last
offering period, 1 IBM DPEA-31080 (1080MB) P/N 84G9435, 1 IBM DPES-31080
(1080MB) P/N 85G3666 and 2 Sigma Data Quick Easy Disk QED/8S-540 (540MB)
that are rebadged Fujitsu M2684SAU drives. Again, the price to ship to
Berlin would be painful, but if someone in the USA wants one or more of
these drives the shipping price will be much more reasonable. If anyone
has an interest, let me know via (last name) AT juno dot com. I will
need to retest these drives, they were tested and known working about 2
years ago, which is plenty of time for new failures to creep in.

As I recall, the P75 hard drive bay space is so tight that a SCSI
wide-to-narrow adapter will not fit, which is unfortunate as I have a
small pile of wide 36GB New/Old-Stock drives.

Hi Rick,

yup, shipping is cost prohibitive over the pond. But the DPES-31080 is
also available here. Currently, there is a DSAS-3540 in my P75. However,
it is not recognized. When I boot from the reference disk, it finds the
SCSI adapter, but when I go to the SCSI configuration page, I get a
message that the adapter is not available. A new autoconfiguration does
not change anything. The hard disk is terminated, the 3 term packs are
set on the mainboard, but no terminator is connected to the external
port. Could this be the problem?

And maybe I get a late Christmas Present from Peter:-)

Currently, there is a DSAS-3540 in my P75.
I'd answere your mail before looking here.
The DSAS pinout is

JP1 Device ID 1
JP2 Device ID 2
JP3 Device ID 4 (all open = 0)
Has to be ID 6 (2 + 4 closed)

JP4 Disable Autospin (better for the Power supply)
JP5 Disable Unit-Attention (has to be open)
JP6 Enable Termination (has to be closed for last or only drive)
JP7 Disable TI Negotiation (has to be open)
